Crafting Tomorrow: a creative laboratory in Venice between fashion, craftsmanship and responsibility

From March 6 to 15, Hotel Nani Mocenigo Palace in Venice hosts Crafting Tomorrow, a pop-up project inviting visitors to imagine—and above all to build—a future grounded in responsibility, awareness and social impact.

Curated by Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director of Fondazione Sozzani, and Federico Poletti, Editorial Director of Next Gen Magazine, the initiative is conceived as a meeting point between creativity, culture and new responsible production models. More than an exhibition, Crafting Tomorrow acts as an open laboratory—an invitation to turn reflection on sustainability into concrete action.

In a city like Venice, historically shaped by cultural exchanges and creative dialogue, the pop-up becomes a dynamic space where fashion, design and craftsmanship meet to generate new perspectives. Here design goes beyond aesthetics, becoming a language of awareness and a tool capable of activating communities and fostering collaboration.

The project brings together a selection of designers and creatives who interpret the theme of social responsibility through different practices and creative languages, united by a contemporary and ethical vision.

Among the participants is Cavia, the project founded by Martina Boero that gives new life to vintage garments, production leftovers and sustainable fabrics, transforming them into unique pieces entirely made in Italy. It is a circular fashion approach that celebrates individuality and conscious reuse.

Designer Marcello Pipitone explores the relationship between fashion and sport through an essential and conceptual lens. His garments treat clothing as a second skin—a cultural device capable of narrating identity, movement and function while removing the superfluous to focus on essence.

A central role is played by Maker Mile, a project created by Ilaria Marcatelli to preserve and relaunch Venetian craftsmanship by bringing traditional knowledge into dialogue with contemporary design. Through a network of artisans—including Marisa Convento, an impiraressa specialized in threading Murano glass beads, master glassmaker Stefano Morasso, goldsmiths Marco Venier and Davide Visentin, and lace maker Sandra Mavaracchio—Maker Mile reactivates techniques and crafts that define the city’s identity while projecting them into an innovative and shared dimension.

Completing the project is Pecoranera, a collective proposing a responsible working model based on collaboration and the rejection of individualism. Drawing from a diverse cultural background spanning humanities, arts and sciences, the brand creates fashion that reflects cultural belonging and respect for one’s origins.

Alongside the pop-up, the project also includes moments of public dialogue. On Saturday, March 7 at 4:00 pm, a talk with the designers of Cavia, Marcello Pipitone and Pecoranera will take place, followed by the Venetian Beads performance by Marisa Convento. The afternoon will continue with a conversation on the relationship between lace and fashion and conclude with a workshop and talk with the artisans of Maker Mile.

As Paolo Caffi, CEO of Nani Mocenigo Palace, points out: “Venice remains a unique place to imagine new cultural and creative models, a city where tradition and innovation can coexist and inspire new visions for the future”.
